چکیده

Background: Infliximab (IFX) is used for the treatment of Crohn's disease (CD). However, there is still controversy on the efficacy and safety of IFX in CD patients. This study aimed to evaluate clinical efficacy and safety of IFX in Chinese CD patients. Methods: Clinical data of 26 CD patients (16 males and 10 females) who received IFX treatment were retrospectively analyzed. C reactive protein (CRP) level, Crohn’s disease activity index (CDAI) score and clinical remission were examined. Results: Among 26 cases, 19 cases had inflammatory CD while 7 cases had fistulizing CD. At 14th week, CRP level and CDAI score decreased in all 26 patients. In addition, 16 achieved remission and remission rate was 61.5% at 14th week. At the end of follow-up, 14 patients achieved remission and remission rate was 53.9%. Among 7 patients with fistulizing CD, anal fistula was completely closed in 2 cases (28.6%) and partially closed in 5 cases (71.4%). Side effects were observed only in two patients, including one case of acute infusion reaction and one case of bellyache. Conclusion: IFX could control inflammation, relieve syndrome and promote fistula closure in Chinese CD patients. IFX demonstrates good clinical efficacy and safety for CD treatment.

Isolated cutaneous Crohn’s disease: A case report

This case report describes a patient with cutaneous signs in the genital and peri-anal region suspicious of Crohn’s disease without any intestinal symptom or sign. Inflammatory bowel disease can be associated with some cutaneous signs. However, in this paper, we report a patient with isolated cutaneous Crohn’s disease which is very rare (less than 100 case reports across the world). Our patient...

Risk factors for recurrence of Crohn’s disease requiring surgery in patients receiving post-operative anti-tumor necrosis factor maintenance therapy

Objectives: Anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) antibodies have shown efficacy in the prevention of recurrence of Crohn’s disease after intestinal resection. However, some patients develop surgical recurrence despite this therapy. We aimed to evaluate the risk factors for recurrence of Crohn’s disease requiring surgery while receiving post-operative anti-TNF therapy. Methods: We performed a retros...

Anti-tumour necrosis factor therapy in Crohn's disease: where are we now?

Controlled trials have confirmed the efficacy of two tumour necrosis factor α (TNF-α) antibodies in active Crohn’s disease. In responding patients, the therapeutic effects qualitatively differ from those observed with standard therapy, including corticosteroids and immunosuppressives, and complete clinical remission can be induced in about one third of patients that did not respond to standard ...

Genital Involvement In Pre-Pubertal Pediatric Population: A Rare Aspect of Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), characterized by chronic intestinal inflammation that causes the loss of immune tolerance leading to bizarre inflammatory signals and disruption of mucosal barriers. Environmental triggers and interaction of genetic determinants also play an indispensible role. In this case report, we present a pre-pubertal girl with intermittent and refra...

INFLAMMATION AND INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE Infliximab treatment induces apoptosis of lamina propria T lymphocytes in Crohn’s disease

Background and aims: Treatment with infliximab induces remission in about 70% of patients with steroid refractory Crohn’s disease. Because Crohn’s disease is considered to be mediated by uncontrolled activation of mucosal T lymphocytes, we hypothesised that infliximab could induce apoptosis of T lymphocytes. Methods: Induction of apoptosis in vivo was studied in 10 patients with therapy refract...
